First of all, we are proud to report on a wonderful article written by one of our chapter members who is also a regional public librarian, Diana Brawley Sussman of Carbondale. You can see it and read it here: http://www.ila.org/Reporter/December_2014/Reporter_1214.pdf. This article will alert Illinois librarians to the 3Rs project, and offer them a glimpse into the work of prison librarians.
November 23 We accepted another smaller load of books from Jim Chapman, who delivered directly to the IMC Rust Room. Ryan Latvaitis helped unload them. November 24 Tracy Hill the librarian from Lincoln CC met Barbara Kessel, Susan Hill and Liz Abraham in Liz's garage and selected about ten boxes worth of books to carry away in her truck. These included some books purchased directly for her library by the Altrusa Club. She was very pleased. December 10 Report from Carol Gloor, Three R's: Trina Conner from the Hill CC in Galesburg came to the Community United Church of Christ in Savanna to pick up books that had been collected over the past few months. She took about 12 boxes (all we had), and we helped her load them. I told her to keep in touch, and she said she would pass on the message to the new librarian, because she is soon taking an educational position. It was nice meeting her and learning how much the inmates enjoy new books.
